Soldiers of Honor held their Safe Summer Kickoff Boxing Block Party. The Soldiers of Honor is designed to help at-risk youth make better choices, curb violence, and prevent delinquency during the summer months. Besides the boxing training expeditions, there were many local organizations on hand to talk about programming for children. Soldiers of Honor serves around 300 kids to help them reach their untapped potential, through improving their mind, body, and spirit.
“One of the biggest things is the importance of talking and communicating with their parents,” says Veronica McLaurine, Soldiers of Honor. “So, they can stay safe, so they can stay healthy. Mental health being able to share what is within you and get it out of you and stay active in the summer.”
“The more kids are involved in programs like this, the less time they have to be hanging around,” adds Mary Early, Board Member, Soldiers of Honor. “We know the structure of the boxing program here is really good for young people.”
