Monday night's council meeting in Fort Shawnee was quiet with a rumble of whispers as Mayor Pete Mariotti announced that the Allen County Sheriff's office is investigating the legality of the ballot issue to dissolve the fort. Craig Bradford, who submitted the signed petitions, attended Monday's meeting, but remained silent as he stood in the back of the room. Bradford commented on the accusations being made, saying in the end, everything will found to be legal.
Resident Boyd Rader would like the village of Fort Shawnee to remain. Rader was given the privilege of the floor during Monday's council meeting, where he took the opportunity to express his frustrations after being called a liar.
If the investigation proves the petition signatures were acquired illegally, the issue could be removed from the ballot.
