WAPAKONETA, OH (WLIO) - The Veterans Service Commission of Auglaize County treated those who served to a free quality meal on Sunday.
Hundreds turned out to the 3rd annual Veterans Holiday Brunch for good food and to be around others who can relate to their experiences in the armed forces. Volunteers from the Boys Scouts, Grand Lake Mariners, National Honor Society, and Wapakoneta Breakfast Optimist Club helped serve meals and clean up. After everything they gave to serve the country, the commission wants to give local veterans something in return for the holidays.
"For some of the veterans, this is their only chance to have a meal with friends and family. Some of our veterans are alone and we never want them to feel like they're alone. We want to bring them into the fold, into the community, and make sure that we know how appreciated they are and how loved they are for their service," said Jeanne Goods, the Auglaize County VFW Commissioner.
The Veterans Service Commission hopes to see even more veterans from all over Auglaize County come out to the brunch next year.
