Wapak Police honored for getting people to Click it or Ticket

The Wapakoneta Police Department today received a special award for their efforts to make sure people buckle up.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has recognized the department’s effort during the 2016 Click It Or Ticket campaign.

With only 14 full time sworn officers, Wapak police issued 37 adult seat belt citations, made 5 OVI arrests, issued 11 speed citations, 31 other citations, issued 14 citations for no license or during under suspension and made one felony arrest.

Officers made nearly 300 traffic stops during the enforcement period.

Out of 121 agencies in the southwest region of Ohio that reported, only three law enforcement agencies had more seat belt citations, and each of those agencies had more than twice the number of officers.
