Bad weather can mean bad news for people on the road, which means that drivers need to take extra steps to stay safe.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol urges drivers to be more alert when the weather becomes potentially dangerous. People behind the wheel should be on the look out for any stopped traffic, to avoid slamming on the brakes. Drivers should pay particular attention to bridges and overpasses in cold weather.
"When the snow comes down, it's important to know that the bridges are the first to freeze over - ODOT gets out, they do their best to get the bridges not to freeze, but sometimes it just happens," said Sgt. Matt Schmenk with the Ohio State Highway Patrol Lima Post. "Motorists just need to remember to slow down; it's more important to get to where you're going safely than it is quickly."
Drivers should also plan to leave earlier to give them more time to get to their location.
