People went to the Lima Public Library and may have found something more than a good book to take home on Friday.

The library held their second "Woof and Meow" adoption event. Deb’s Dogs and the Allen County Humane Society brought in dogs and cats of all ages for people to pet and check out and maybe make a part of their home. Library employees started the adoption event to bring together their passions of books and animals, that passion could even extend to the kids who are lucky to have a pet at home that they could read to.

“It’s a mutually beneficial relationship for both children and dogs,” says Sarah Crawford, Head of Reference at the Lima Public Library. “We have had in the past and I am sure in the future, we'll have reading to animals, reading to therapy animals, that sort of thing. It’s very comforting for children to read to animals, it’s an appreciative audience, you know, but a nonjudgmental one. One that is just happy to be there with you, and you don’t feel rushed or anything like that. It’s a great exercise for children to read to animals and of course, animals just loved to be loved. So, and I am sure they appreciate the story too.”

The library wants to make this a twice a year event. If you would like to adopt a dog or cat, you can find Deb’s Dogs website at https://debsdogs.org/ and the Allen County Humane Society's website at https://www.ohiospca.org/shelter.
