COLUMBUS GROVE — After a tough 0-3 start, Columbus Grove found its rhythm Friday night, rolling past Spencerville 48-0 to claim its first win of the season.
The Bulldogs’ defense set the tone early as Gavin Baxter recorded a sack to force a turnover on downs. On the very next play, quarterback Landon Best launched a 45-yard touchdown strike to Trevon Baxter, giving Grove a commanding 35-0 lead in the early second quarter.
Running back Brody McCluer added to the offensive outburst, breaking tackles and setting up the Bulldogs deep in Spencerville territory before punching in a touchdown run of his own.
Columbus Grove controlled the game from start to finish, shutting down the Bearcats’ offense and cruising to the lopsided victory. The win gives the Bulldogs a much-needed boost as Northwest Conference play continues.
