FAIRBORN, Ohio (WLIO) — The St. Henry Redskins’ remarkable postseason run came to an end Saturday afternoon, as they fell to Newark Catholic in straight sets in the Division VI state championship match at Wright State University’s Nutter Center.

The Redskins, chasing their eighth state title in program history and first since 2011, were back on the big stage after sweeping through the regional tournament.

In the opening set, freshman Karlee Baumer got St. Henry going with the first kill of the match, followed by Addy Homan’s block at the net to give the Redskins an early lead. But Newark Catholic rallied late to take the first set, 25–22.

The Green Wave carried that momentum into the second set, holding off a late push from the Redskins despite big plays from Molly Wendel and Karlee Buschur, who each sparked the St. Henry offense. Newark Catholic edged out another close set, 25–23.

In the third, Buschur and Wendel continued to battle — combining for 13 kills — but the Green Wave sealed the sweep with a service ace to close the match, 25–22, 25–23, 25–18.
