Many Lima area residents will be seeing new technology when it comes to their electric service.
AEP Ohio announcing they are replacing nearly 30,000 of their meters in and around the Lima area. The new smart meters will provide many benefits for both AEP and the consumer. The meters will send your electric usage data to the company throughout the day eliminating the need to access your property for meter readings. As an AEP customer, you will be able to access your usage online or through the new "It's Your Power" app on your smartphone.
"So really is empowering for them so they can see when am I using the most electricity, what can I do to change that activity and hopefully reduce that consumption overall to lower the cost of the bill," explained Scott Osterholt, Director of Grid Modernization.
If you are getting a new smart meter you will be contacted several times by AEP. You will get a mailer and a phone call prior to them showing up to do the work. You don't need to be home for the switch and your power will only be off for a few minutes.
