ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - The Allen County Board of Developmental Disabilities wants to give a big shout-out to the community for once again supporting their mission.
It was a sold-out event at their annual Chicken Barbeque Dinner today. 3,250 meals sold! The proceeds are going to the Marimor Legacy Foundation to help with the upkeep of the All Ability Playgrounds. Each year, dozens of volunteers come out to help serve the meal and they say it is a labor of love they wouldn't change.
"This is the 24th year of this event and I was actually on the original committee and I worked for the county board for 8 years in the late 90s and early 2000s and this is a homecoming. I enjoy visiting with the people that used to be my coworkers and now are my friends. And also it's a wonderful cause and we need to continue to support the county board of developmental disabilities," said Ryan Knodel, who volunteers at the dinner.
"We like to raise money for the Marimor Legacy Foundation and our special needs fund and we just really appreciate the community's support in this event every year. It's just a really good time to hang out with people, bag up chicken, and deliver lunches to the community," commented Karen McCullough, who volunteers at dinner.
This is the board's biggest fundraiser of the year.
