The Allen County Fairgrounds Grandstand is getting a makeover. Crews have been working since September on structural restorations and painting.Â
The project is apart of the fair's yearly ongoing capital improvements program which assesses structural and cosmetic issues on the fairgrounds. The grandstand is a place where patrons can enjoy various activities like the annual harness races and musical concerts. Given the recent warm and clear weather, officials decided to take advantage of it and complete several projects. Officials will do away with the traditional white and grey and add a bit of color to the outside with navy. Beige and red will coat the inside as additional patchwork and welding is completed there. The structure alone can hold 2000 people while 11000 people can occupy the space during concert seating. Bob Fricke says the last time the structure has received painting was 17 years ago.Â
This year recording artists Nelly and Sean Kingston played at the annual fair. Fricke says additional projects are in the works with more long term planning.Â
