Allen SWCD encouraging people to "Adopt a Roadway"

The Allen Soil and Water Conservation District is inviting people in the community to volunteer some of their time by adopting a roadway.

The Adopt a Roadway Program involves volunteers picking up litter in their section of a roadway at least twice a year, with the Allen SWCD providing the materials and putting up signs to mark the road that each group has adopted. The goal is to clean up the trash before it ends up in rivers and streams in the area. There are quite a few groups that are working to keep Lima and Allen County clean from litter.

"It's great to see people want to be a part of their community in this way and take pride in the community," said Beth Seibert, Stormwater & Watershed Programs Coordinator for the Allen SWCD. "We have at least 30 groups here in the city of Lima and we also have over 12 groups out in the county, and there's still lots of room for people to adopt other sections of roadways."

If you're interested in adopting a roadway, you can contact the Allen Soil and Water Conservation District for more information.
