SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP, ALLEN COUNTY, Ohio (WLIO) — Quite a few 5th and 6th grade students put on their thinking caps to test their trivia knowledge!
The Allen County 5th and 6th grade Quiz Bowl final tournament was held Monday evening inside Shawnee Middle School. Hosted by the Allen County Educational Service Center, readers asked students questions ranging from math and history to spelling and science. Many parents were also cheering on their children and schools.
Through a friendly academic challenge, students were able to have fun and put their classroom knowledge to good use.
"It's an opportunity for the kids to show people what they've learned in the classroom in a competitive environment, and it also gives them to meet some people from other schools, and I just think it's a very good experience for the kids to participate in quiz bowl," says Brad Clark, Gifted Coordinator, Allen County ESC.
Before the competition heated up, some of the participating students spoke with us about their time in Quiz Bowl and offered advice for anyone interested.
"It's really fun. Like, the energy is just like crazy. Quiz bowl is one of my favorite things to do. Sportsmanship: to always be nice to the other team and the readers and coaches," says Noah Bowersock, 6th Grade Student, Spencerville Middle School.
"It's been fun. I think you should do it. It's fun. It's a good experience," says Kendall Perrine, 5th Grade Student, Bath Elementary School.
"I love it. I love coming here and competing against other schools. They should do it because they get to learn a lot," says Margaret Brown, 5th Grade Student, Bath Elementary School.
This season of the 5th and 6th grade Quiz Bowl marks the 37th year of the competition.
