Allen County Children’s Services seeks donations for annual UnGarage Sale

LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – Allen County Children’s Services is asking for donations for its 19th annual UnGarage Sale, an event that helps local families in need by offering free household items, clothing, and more.

Donated items may include household goods such as pots and dishes, toys, games, and a variety of other items. This year, the agency is especially in need of children's clothing, as donations in that category were down last year and the need remains high. Unlike a typical garage sale, the UnGarage Sale offers all items free of charge, helping ease financial stress for families in the community.

“One of the things our case workers hear a lot about is just they don't have the financial needs to pay for a lot of stuff, so they need assistance. And this is one great way to give them assistance, and this is one way the public can help. And the public has been super supportive. We can't thank the public enough for what they've done over the years,” says Greg Sowinski, Communications Coordinator, Allen County Children's Services.

Donations will be accepted on Monday and Tuesday, July 28 and 29, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Allen County Children’s Services building, located at 123 W. Spring St. in Lima.

The UnGarage Sale itself will take place on Thursday, July 31, at the same location. Clients of Allen County Children’s Services will have early access from 9 a.m. to noon. The sale will then open to the general public from noon to 3 p.m.

Additional services will be available during the event, including registration for Head Start and Early Head Start programs through WOCAP. Officers from the Lima Police Department will also be on hand, grilling hot dogs for attendees.
