LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) -  Plenty of black smoke and flame coming from the flare stack at Cenovus Lima Refinery on Wednesday morning could be seen from miles away.

In a statement, refinery officials said this was from an incident that caused increased flaring, which is the normal procedure when this particular incident happens. They went on to say the issue has been resolved. They tell us that monitoring showed normal air quality for the area.


Cenovus addresses increased flaring from refinery

Earlier today, people in the community surrounding the Lima Refinery may have seen a release of black smoke from the facility’s flare stack. This was due to an incident which caused increased flaring, this is normal operating procedure under these circumstances. The issue has been resolved, and community monitoring in the area showed normal air quality. Cenovus’s priority is the safety of its employees and the community.
