LIMA, OH (WLIO) -Â Johnny Appleseed Metropolitan Park District introduced some of its newest friends earlier Thursday.
At a special edition of their Feeding Day, the park district introduced Clover, Brutus, and Loco—new tree frogs that the community helped name over the past few weeks. They held a competition on Facebook, allowing people to suggest names for the amphibians and vote for their favorites. In addition to meeting the new frogs, visitors helped feed the other animals at the education center.
"Feeding Day is an opportunity for the public to come out to the McElroy Environmental Education Center with us and watch us as we feed our animals. It's a great way to engage with nature, maybe in a little bit of a different way, and see something you might have never seen happen before," said Marie Walton, naturalist with JAMPD.
The park district’s next event, Nature Pals, is set for April 3, where participants will prepare for the spring arrival of hummingbirds.
