LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – An after-school program and a Lima city councilman are voicing their support for the renewal levy benefiting Allen County Children Services. Councilman Derry Glenn and Mentoring with Music are endorsing the 0.5-mill, five-year renewal levy, which helps fund operating expenses for the agency.
In 2024, Children Services was involved with one in 13 children in Allen County. Officials say the cases they handle continue to grow more complex due to the ongoing opioid epidemic affecting many local families. That’s why supporters are urging voters to continue backing the agency’s efforts to protect and support children.
“It's important to support the levy, because that's all that we need here. The children are hurting. We're hurting right now, and the levy is going to help ease the pain that's going on in the city. So this levy is needed to be passed on November 4,” said Jason Henderson of Mentoring with Music.
“So many people in our community love children's service. That children service do a great job. Great director, great employees. Let's keep this going. There's no new taxes on this. This is nothing but love for our babies, our kids, our families, for everyone here. So let's continue supporting this,” said Derry Glenn, Lima’s 6th Ward councilman.
For an Allen County resident with a $100,000 home, the levy costs about $10 per year in property taxes.
