LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) - March 25th marks National Medal of Honor Day.

In 1863, the first medals of honor were given to recipients who displayed courage and bravery. This award is the highest medal to be given in the United States. Out of the 41 million who have served in the U.S. military, the medal has been presented to just over 3 thousand 5 hundred and fifty service members.

In Lima, two service members have earned the medal of honor: Leonard Mason and William E. Metzger Jr. These medals, and their stories, are currently on display at the Allen County Museum alongside other honorable service members.
