LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Lima Memorial Health System is inviting the community to participate in the third annual Milestones in Motion 5K Walk and Run on May 30.
The event was originally created as part of the hospital’s 125th anniversary celebration two years ago and now serves as a fundraiser for the Foundation’s Samaritan Fund. The fund provides financial assistance for patients needing medications and medical equipment and also supports the hospital’s food pantry.
“So, all the proceeds from this go towards the Samaritan Fund, which helps people with medications, medical equipment and clothing, that type of thing, to help them get to the next stage past the hospital discharge. It's more than just a race. It is truly here for those people in need,” says Mitchell Hoying.
Event organizers say the race is designed to remain affordable for families and participants of all ages.

“We strive to keep this a very low cost, so it's only $20 that includes a t shirt. If you have some kids you would like to bring with you, if they're under 13, the cost is free. If they want a t shirt, we'll just there's a $10 charge with that. So real, real, low cost. You know, with inflation everything, you don't find 5k this cheap anymore,” says Samuel Schroeder.
Participants who want to guarantee their T-shirt size must register by May 10, although registration will remain open through the day of the event. Organizers encourage community members to sign up online or through the event’s Facebook page.
