LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Ohio State Lima took time to thank its scholarship donors and showcase the impact their generosity has had on students.
Scholarship recipients and donors gathered to celebrate the funding that has helped many students achieve their dream of earning a college education. urrent students spoke with donors about how much their contributions make a difference for future teachers, social workers and doctors. Dr. Elisha Jones began his education at Ohio State Lima and said the scholarships he received had a significant impact on his path to becoming a chiropractor.
“And it just helps impact my ability to not have as much financial burden and to be able to focus my studies and then come back to the community and hopefully make a greater impact. That's what I hope scholarships can do for these students here and now, is that they can have the opportunity to come back to their communities, build businesses, build wealth and create better and stronger communities,” said Dr. Elisha Jones, an Ohio State Lima alumnus.
“What's interesting about tonight is that there are so many different kinds of scholarships. We have folks who are celebrating or investing in folks from their home community in Hardin County, but at the same point, we have really targeted opportunities to support students in engineering or in education, ways that we can really kind of propel students into their future,” said Dr. Margaret Young, dean of Ohio State Lima.
Young hopes the students receiving scholarships today will one day pay it forward to future Ohio State Lima students.
