Area Agency on Aging 3 hosts first-ever Shred-a-Thon

Area Agency on Aging 3 gave people the chance to get rid of old documents safely Friday.

The agency teamed up with AARP Ohio for a Shred-a-Thon, where people could bring in personal information or unwanted documents to be shredded and disposed of properly. Participants could also learn about fraud prevention and scams. The agency says that this was an opportunity that a lot of people aren't able to take advantage of regularly.

"Often personal shredders are too small for large documents, it's time-consuming, we wanted to make sure individuals' information was definitely kept secure - their personal health information as well as any confidential information - we just wanted to ensure that was disposed of properly," said Allison Stehlik, vice president of community living services for Area Agency on Aging 3.

Area Agency on Aging says they plan to hold events like this again in the future.
