Millions of Ukrainians have become refugees and it’s still unclear where they will go.
Last week, Governor Mike DeWine opened the "Ohio Summit on Ukrainian Refugees" to get the state prepared if any of the refugees make their way to our state. Could it be possible that any would make their way to our region of the state? The answer is unknown. The West Ohio Community Action Partnership says if it does occur there is assistance that they could provide them.
WOCAP CEO Jackie Fox explains, “It’s not unheard of that people just show up in communities when they need help. And you know, especially as more shelters in the bigger cities get crowded then people are likely to spread out. So, whether people are brought here by sponsorship, or they're brought here by you know just coming here on their own, WOCAP stands ready to assist.”
The federal funds that WOCAP has for housing and shelter have no U.S. citizenship requirements.
