An area group looking to bring change to the black community hosted an event to get a perspective on future initiatives.
The group Building One's Opportunities Starting Today or BOOST hosted a wrap session in a packed room. Throughout the night, the panel of BOOST members discussed the importance of teaching the community about financial literacy. They also talked about the need for future programs and businesses needed to help set up the next generation for success. Many of the audience members shared their thoughts on what could be done to help improve the black community.
“We’re trying to gather information from the community just to see where we are going to go in the future just make sure we can actually make an impact,” said Autumn Swanson, a BOOST member.
“What we hope to do is to bring programs and let people know about the programs,” said Courtney Owens, a BOOST member. “That’s the main thing- is to get the knowledge out about the programs so we can bring our youth back here to establish programs that will have an impact in the community. “
One of the first initiatives BOOST is working on is getting more black people on various boards in the Lima-area.
