Children's Hometown Holiday Brings Thousands to Wapakoneta

For Kristina Healy and her daughters Leah and Lauren the Children’s Hometown Holiday is a new tradition they’ve started just this year.

They were excited to see Santa arrive in a fire truck and enjoy the many activities planned throughout the day.

Santa Claus set up shop near the fire station so he could talk to the good little boys and girls about what they want for Christmas, and people could even check out a couple of Santa’s reindeer nearby.

The event was the brainchild of Elaine Poppe who started the Children’s Hometown Holiday nine years ago.

Near the fire station an ice skating rink was set up and there were pony rides for the kids.

Throughout the town there was the feeling that Christmas is getting closer.

The Children’s Hometown Holiday really encompasses Wapakoneta with many merchants donating prizes and gift certificates to hand out to the children.
