AUGLAIZE COUNTY, Ohio (WLIO) — The suspect has been identified after leading area law enforcement in a chase through four counties.
A news release from the Auglaize County Sheriff's Office says 36-year-old Nathaniel Nix of Detroit, Michigan, is now facing multiple charges after escaping from the Auglaize County courthouse just after noontime on Tuesday. He was at the courthouse for arraignment on drug possession charges, at which time the judge ordered him into custody. Nix then broke a window and escaped from the courthouse, when he was spotted by a deputy, who tried to place him in custody. He was then able to get into his vehicle, and drag a deputy a short distance, as the pursuit began. The deputy sustained minor injuries.
Nix fled and was then spotted in Lima, with the chase resuming. Speeds reportedly reached 80 miles per hour during the chase in the city. The suspect went north on I-75 where speeds reached 135 miles per hour.
According to scanner traffic, law enforcement was able to spike two tires, and OnStar was able to remotely shut the vehicle down and lock the cars occupant inside until they were arrested. Nix was taken into custody without further incident, and is in the Wood County jail. He now faces additional charges of fleeing and eluding and identity theft.
