VAN WERT, Ohio (WLIO) - A Van Wert man was arrested following a shooting incident Thursday night. Yusef Abdulrahman has been charged with improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, aggravated menacing, and inducing panic.

According to Van Wert police officers, they received a call at 7 p.m. reporting a male suspect firing a gun from a vehicle in the area of West Second and Monroe streets. No injuries or property damage were found.

A witness provided a description of both the shooter and the vehicle, leading police to locate them at a home on Sycamore Street.

Abdulrahman was arrested around 9:30 p.m. Thursday after evidence at the scene and his residence indicated his alleged involvement. He was taken to the Van Wert County Jail, where he is awaiting arraignment.

There was a shooting incident in the city of Van Wert on 03/06/25. 

On 03/06/25 at 1900 hours, the Van Wert Police Dept. received a report of a male who began shooting a firearm out of a vehicle in the area of W. Second St. and Monroe Street.  No injuries were reported and no damage was found during the incident.  A witness described the male as a black male driving a light blue Chrysler 300, leaving the area going northbound on Monroe Street.  The vehicle and male were later found at his residence on Sycamore Street.  Evidence located at the scene as well as the residence, lead to the Arrest of Yusef Abdulrahman at 2130 hours.  Abdulrahman was charged with Improper Handling of a Firearm in a motor vehicle, a Felony 4th degree, Aggravated Menacing, and Inducing Panic both Misdemeanors of the 1st degree.  Abdulrahman was incarcerated at the Van Wert County Correctional Facility.
