Ottawa Ohio- Troopers from the Lima Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol are currently investigating an injury crash that occurred on Road I-7 east of SR65. At approximately 8:45PM the Putnam County Sheriff's Office received a call of the injury accident. Channing Schmitz age 16 of Ottawa was eastbound on I-7 when his vehicle jumped the railroad tracks. The Schmitz vehicle came down on the wrong side of the road at oncoming traffic. Schmitz tried to correct the vehicle but lost control and struck the front of a westbound vehicle being driven by Daryl Brooks age 50 of Ottawa. Five juvenile passengers were transported from the Schmitz vehicle and three people were transported from the Brooks vehicle to local hospitals. Troopers were assisted at the scene by the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, Ottawa Police, Ottawa Fire and rescue, Leipsic and Pandora EMS. The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
