SHAWNEE TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WLIO) – In Shawnee Township, some pizza deliveries came via fire truck Thursday evening.

Lima Domino’s and the Shawnee Township Fire Department teamed up for the second year in a row during Fire Prevention Week, working together to make sure residents have functioning smoke alarms. Customers who agreed to a home safety check had the chance to receive their pizza order for free—if their smoke alarms were working. If not, firefighters installed or replaced the smoke alarms on the spot at no cost.

“Smoke alarms are very important. They are the most important thing when it comes to fire safety that you can have in your home,” said Matt Reaman, fire prevention officer with the Shawnee Township Fire Department. “The majority of fatalities in house fires occur in homes that don't have working smoke alarms, so we like to make sure that residents have working smoke alarms.”

“It's a great way to get to the community and help save lives and help our friends and neighbors, and it's a great community involvement,” said Samantha Karsten, district manager for Domino’s.

Domino’s has been running this program nationally for 18 years. Karsten said they hope to expand the initiative to more communities in the Lima area in the future.
