ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - A former Apollo school resource officer and Shawnee police officer facing charges involving child pornography has pleaded guilty to a different charge.
45-year-old Jeremy Shellenbarger pleaded guilty to the new charge of obstructing justice, a fifth-degree felony. As part of a plea deal, two counts each of pandering sexually oriented matter involving a minor and illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material were dropped. With the new charge, there is a maximum of a year in prison, but generally, with a 5th-degree felony, the defendant gets community control. Special prosecutor Eva Yarger from Van Wert County says the victim agreed to the new charge before the hearing. Shellenbarger resigned from the Shawnee Township Police Department after he was indicted by an Allen County grand jury. He will be sentenced next month.
