Lima, OH (WLIO) - A Lima city councilman made sure some kids in Lima will have a good Christmas.

Lima's sixth ward councilman Dr. Derry Glenn handed out gifts to Heir Force Community School students in need for his third annual Give a Christmas Program. He doesn't want kids to have to go back to school wondering why their classmates got presents and they didn't, so he collects donations each year to get gifts, blankets, and candy for the kids, and help some parents pay the bills too. Glenn says the tradition even inspired a past recipient of "Give a Christmas" to pay it forward himself.

"He said 'Dr. Glenn, you gave me a gift one time,' so he went out and bought a gift for a kid. And that's what excites me so much, when kids do that. When they take a gift, they look out for one another and you're teaching them something, to give back to the community," said Dr. Derry Glenn.

Councilman Glenn says that programs like this are thanks to the sense of community and generosity of the people and organizations of Lima. This year, around forty kids received presents.
