LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — The Lima YMCA celebrated a very special member Wednesday.
Howard Lackey, a longtime member and participant in the Y’s chair yoga program, marked his 100th birthday a few days early with family, friends and fellow members.
Lackey was born and raised in Bath Township and has lived in the same home on Slabtown Road for nearly 75 years. He still drives himself to the grocery store, to church and to the YMCA, where he attends chair yoga three days a week.
Staff and classmates surprised him after this afternoon’s session with cake, photos and a special seat set up just for him.
When asked what his secret is, he said, “Well, I have to say, God’s been good to me. That has to be it. That’s the biggest majority of my explanation for it.”
Lackey plans to spend his actual birthday weekend with family.
