This holiday weekend, Ohioans are planning longer, more expensive trips than in years past.Â
AAA booking data has shown that Ohio travelers are taking an extra day off to extend their holiday from 4 days to 5.  Lower gas prices are believed to be the biggest reason that Ohioans are taking more time off. Last year gas prices were nearly 20 cents more than this year. Â
This could mean more road trips to farther destinations, but as important as planning out a vacation can be, safety should always come first.
"Always just double-check your vehicles; make sure all your fluids are topped off, make sure you know where things are in your vehicle, especially if you have a new vehicle. Â If you're taking a long road trip, just give the vehicle a once-over, make sure you know what everything is," said Cindy Nelson, Sales Manager at AAA of Lima.
AAAÂ says that Alaska is still a popular destination for Labor Day weekend, followed by trips to California and Hawaii.
