Rhodes State College once again gave back to its students Wednesday evening.
The college held its 22nd annual Scholarship Awards Reception. About 350 people were there, including donors, guests, and the recipients themselves. Rhodes State handed out 152 scholarships, totaling nearly $150,000. The foundation has awarded nearly 2,000 scholarships with a combined total of more than two million dollars in the past two decades.
"One of the things that our students say is when they receive a scholarship, that that's like a third-party endorsement that what they're doing is what they should be doing. It gives them that extra boost sometimes to just say I can pull through this, I can get through this semester, and I'll get through the next one too," said Kevin Reeks, executive director of development at Rhodes State College
Rhodes State has been able to increase the amount of scholarship money awarded to the students every year. Reeks hopes the college can reach $250,000 one day.
