ALLEN COUNTY, OH (WLIO) - Another roundabout is coming to Allen County, with most of the tab covered by the State of Ohio.

Governor Mike DeWine announced that Allen County will get nearly two and a half million dollars toward a roundabout at the intersection of Buckeye and Fort Amanda roads. Combined, both roads see more than 15,000 vehicles a day, according to the Allen County Engineer. The county applied last year for funding from the Ohio Department of Transportation's Highway Safety Improvement Program. Twenty-two Ohio counties are receiving 87 million dollars for 28 roadway safety projects. The Buckeye and Fort Amanda intersection has been a concern for many years.

"Currently, that intersection is unique, to say the least. It has very complex geometry, and then also very poor sight distance as well. So with a roundabout being part of the design, we're hoping that it will also increase the flow of traffic in there and reduce the accidents as well," stated Brion Rhodes, Allen County Engineer.
Rhodes says a traffic study from 2020 through 2022 saw a total of 30 accidents. It broke down to 10 accidents per year in the study, with 9 of those resulting in serious injuries. He says the project is in the beginning stages and should be awarded for construction between July 2026 and June 2027.
