Although we have had a break in the rain there is still plenty of standing water around that could lead to another nuisance....mosquitoes!
Stagnate water is a breeding ground for mosquitoes. The recent rains have left many yards and fields with standing water, but any small amount of standing water can breed the pests as well. So if you have any buckets, pots, or places water may be hiding, be sure to empty them to ward off the biting bandit.
"We want to reduce mosquito breeding as much as possible around your home. Mosquitoes can lay eggs and they'll hatch in as little as seven days in standing stagnant water," explained Director of Environmental Health, Bill Kelly.
The Ohio Department of Health is reporting several mosquitoes have tested positive for West Nile Virus in the state. Samples have not yet been tested in Allen County. No human cases of the West Nile Virus have been reported this year.
