Lima police called to Lima Senior High School on Friday afternoon after officials found a student carrying an unloaded handgun in a bookbag.

School officials were alerted that the student had a handgun and it was handed over to the resource officer. Law enforcement was notified shortly after and the student was removed from school. The district will move forward with permanent expulsion proceedings. The incident is being investigated by the Lima Police Department.

Lima Police were called to Lima Senior High School this afternoon after school officials found a student carrying an unloaded handgun in a book bag. No ammunition was found.

School officials were alerted that the student had the handgun. It was handed over to school officials and School Resource Officer without incident.

We applaud the person who made the school aware of the weapon as well as school officials who responded swiftly to handle the situation.

Law enforcement was notified immediately and the student was removed from school. The school district will move forward with permanent expulsion proceedings.

The incident is now being investigated by Lima Police. Any questions should be directed to the department. The school district will not comment any further.
