Lima, OH (WLIO) - A decision on if Lima will ban smoking and vaping in city-owned parks could be reached Monday night. Lima City Council could have their third and final reading of the proposed law. According to the ordinance, any violation would be considered a minor misdemeanor and carries a $150 fine.
Health officials say the numbers for people with lung and bronchial cancers in Lima are still higher than the national average. People who are "for" the ban would like to see it in place to further help reduce smoking numbers and related complications in the city. Those who are "against" it, say that it would be impossible to enforce the ban with the current number of police and rangers. The issues will be discussed at a Public Works committee meeting that is set to take place just before the council meeting on Monday.
