American Township Fire Department responded to a two vehicle crash that ended in the front yard of a house on Main Street in Elida. Officials say the crash between a box truck and PT Cruiser occurred around noon Wednesday where Main Street and 309 meet. Witnesses told investigators one vehicle turned in front of another and the box truck pushed the Cruiser across the road, stopping at a concrete front porch. They extricated the driver from the cruiser, who lives on Main Street just feet away from the accident. They say he was in stable condition and taken to St. Rita's Medical Center.
The Fire Chief tells us the layout of the intersection could be to blame for accidents. "I believe it's the angle of the road, when Main Street comes out it's almost parallel, and it's hard to see when you're looking to the East to make sure traffic's clear when you pull out," said American Township Fire Chief Tom Hadding. He added that they've seen many accidents at this location, ranging from minor to severe.
Neighbors tell us this is a dangerous intersection, and it always has been, and that they've seen multiple accidents here. Officials are still investigating the situation.
