VAN WERT, Ohio (WLIO) — A monthly food distribution in Van Wert County is helping families ensure they have enough to eat as Thanksgiving approaches.

Dozens of volunteers helped load vehicles for roughly 225 families, providing groceries to carry them through the holiday week and beyond. The monthly distribution is supported by the Van Wert United Way and the West Ohio Food Bank. For November and December, the event is also receiving additional assistance from Van Wert County Hospital.

Van Wert food distribution helps over 200 families ahead of Thanksgiving

Dozens of volunteers helped load vehicles for roughly 225 families, providing groceries to carry them through the holiday week and beyond.

Families picked up fresh produce along with a selection of pantry staples. Volunteers say they are grateful to assist residents facing food insecurity during the holiday season.

“It's a blessing. First of all, it's a blessing that that the food is supplied by West Ohio Food Bank and United Way here in the county. And you know, it's a blessing both ways, because we're blessed with the food, and then we get blessed to be able to distribute to to very thankful people. Most great majority of these people are very, very thankful for receiving the free food,” said Larry Adam, a volunteer with Trinity Friends Church.

The next Van Wert food distribution will take place Dec. 16 from noon to 2 p.m. For more information, contact Trinity Friends Church.
