26-year-old Devon Ketzenberger got permission from Judge Jeffrey Reed to take part in a work program at the mental health facility where he is getting treatment. In 2021, the judge found him not guilty by reason of insanity on murder and other charges for the death of his mother Wendy Ketzenberger. Detectives say he killed his mother, by strangling and beating her before starting the fire that destroyed her home in September of 2020.

Devon Ketzenberger's attorney filed a motion to suppress a statement made by his client. The state provided a recording of the interview between Ketzenberger and police after he was taken into custody last September, that recording would be the sole piece of evidence in this case. Ketzenberger is accused of starting the fire in his Woodlawn Avenue home on September 19th that killed his mother, Wendy Ketzenberger. He pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity but was found competent to stand trial earlier this year.

A Lima man has been found competent to stand trial after a mental evaluation. Devon Ketzenberger was evaluated late last year and was found that he would be able to go through a trial.

2020 was already a difficult year. And for the City of Lima it was an unusual year when it comes to crime. Lima Police Department handled 12 homicides, up from the average 5 murders a year for the last few years. LPD has arrested at least one person in each case.

Jan. 20 Dan Jackson was shot and killed while standing behind pappy’s lounge after the bar had closed. Police believe two teens are responsible and they have since been arrested.

On Feb.4, Levels Lounge was the site of a violent triple murder. A gun fight left Terrell McGraw and Devontae Upshaw dead inside the bar and Timothy White was found dead on a nearby sidewalk. Deontray Forrest has been charged for two of the murders with criminal gang charges attached to them. The bar has since closed.

An Allen County Grand Jury returned their November indictments with a couple of cases we have been following.

Devon Ketzenberger has been indicted on aggravated murder, murder, aggravated arson and felonious assault. Ketzenberger is alleged to have started the house fire that killed his mother, Wendy Ketzenberger.

The house fire was spotted about 4 a.m. on Sept. 19. The Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office told Lima Police they had Ketzenberger in custody. They say he walked from his mothers home at 113 N. Woodlawn Ave. to a house in Auglaize County. Whoever he spoke to at the house was alarmed and called law enforcement.

Devon Ketzenberger waived his preliminary hearing in Lima Municipal Court Friday morning. Ketzenberger has been charged with one count of Aggravated Arson for allegedly starting the fire at a home on Woodlawn Avenue on the morning of September 19th that killed his mother Wendy Ketzenberger. Following the fire, Devon Ketzenberger walked to a home in Auglaize County where he was arrested by Auglaize County Sheriff's Deputies. The Lima Police Department says he confessed to starting a fire during an interview.

Devon Ketzenberger appeared by video conference in Lima Municipal Court. He's being charged with aggravated arson. Police say they have a confession from Ketzenberger that he started the fire that burned down the house at 113 N. Woodlawn Ave. and killed his mother, Wendy Ketzenberger, who was inside. It was late Saturday morning when Auglaize County Sheriff's office arrested Ketzenberger, hours after the fire began.
