LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) – Freedom Elementary hosted its "Family Night" on Thursday afternoon, part of a district-wide initiative to increase parent involvement in schools.

Students and their families enjoyed karaoke, games, and a variety of activities organized by Freedom Elementary staff. Each month, different groups of teachers and staff are responsible for planning a community event, giving families a chance to connect with the school in a relaxed and engaging environment.

Freedom Elementary hosts Family Night to build community ties

"It's just about having fun, bringing people in and engaging with our community, which is our biggest goal here at Freedom," said Nathan Murta, music teacher at Freedom Elementary School. "Our families are everything to us—just making sure that our kids feel like they belong here, and that our families understand that we're all on the same side. We're all just trying to give our kids the best experience possible."

Teachers say the school’s administrative team will plan next month’s event, which is expected to feature a Halloween theme.
