OTTAWA, OH (WLIO) -Â Local beekeepers were busy on Saturday. The Northwest Ohio Beekeeping Association held a beginner beekeeping class.

The class covered a range of topics, from where to get bees to how to maintain a healthy hive.Â
Whether you were looking to start or had previous experience and wanted to get back into it, all were welcome. The class covered a range of topics, from where to get bees to how to maintain a healthy hive. While it provided a solid introduction for beginners, organizers emphasized that additional training and experience are necessary before starting on your own.
"Probably the biggest things we're hoping they take away from it is that there's a club here, and there's also surrounding clubs down St. Mary's and Defiance. As well as in other areas where they can find support because everything they learn today is not going to be enough. They're going to need a mentor. They're going to need someone to ask questions when they actually see stuff in the hives. Reading the book just simply isn't enough," said Tim Arheit, owner of Honey Run Apiaries.
If you would like to learn more about beekeeping, the Northwest Ohio Beekeeping Association holds a meeting every 4th Tuesday of the month at the Putnam County Extension Office.
