Media release from Lima Police Department: 12/8/19
On December 8, 2019, at approximately 4:12 am, Officers from the Lima Police Department responded to the Travelodge (805 S. Leonard Ave.) for a panic alarm activation.
While officers were responding, a hotel employee called 911 and said there was a subject in the lobby with a gun. Officers arrived and were preparing to enter the lobby when a gunshot was heard from inside. Several third shift officers entered the hotel and located Jujuan M. Payne in the lobby with a handgun. Upon seeing officers, Mr. Payne put the handgun down and was taken into custody without further incident.
During a search incident to arrest, Mr. Payne was found to be in possession of heroin. No one was injured during this incident, however, Mr. Payne was transported to St. Rita’s Medical Center due to the belief he was under the influence of some type of drug. Mr. Payne was found to have rented a room at the hotel. Detectives obtained a search warrant for Mr. Payne’s hotel room and found more suspected narcotics inside.
Mr. Payne will be held on Suspicion of Possession of Heroin at the Allen County Jail. Mr. Payne is a 38-year-old resident of Detroit, Michigan.
