LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — Many children dream of becoming firefighters or police officers when they grow up. Now, the city of Lima is giving local high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to see if they still want to pursue a career as a first responder.

As part of the GenNext 9-1-1 program, students will tour both the Lima Police Department and Lima Fire Department. They will participate in demonstrations and learn about the various roles within public safety careers.

“They just want to learn more and see what happens,” said Amber Martin, coordinator of Lima’s workforce and small business development. “But if you are interested, getting that look and knowing where do I apply, how do I take a test, what is required of me? So, anything from a little bit of interest to, ‘Yes, I've known since I was four years old that I want to be a firefighter or police officer.’ Come and join us.”
