BATH TOWNSHIP, OH (WLIO) - The Bath Township Fire Department opened their doors to the public to kickstart Fire Safety Week, which starts Monday.

Sunday afternoon, kids could come by the fire station, meet the employees, and take a look at all the different vehicles and equipment they use to protect the community. They also received plenty of informational material on preventing house fires, and how to escape a burning building safely. For youth interested in a career as a first responder or anyone who just wanted to learn, the open house was a great way to see what a day in the life of a firefighter really looks like.

"I think one of the things that the community finds interesting about our firehouse is that it really is a house. We eat here, we sleep here, you know, we work out. We're here for 24 hours at a time. The building has all of our trucks and apparatus but it's also set up like our home too. I think people enjoy seeing that," said Bath Township Fire Chief, Joseph Kitchen.

The Bath Township Fire Department is currently accepting applications from Bath residents or students of the Bath school district aged 14 to 20 for their career exploration program.
