FINDLAY, OH (WLIO) - A couple of flood mitigation projects in Findlay will be pushed back because their cost has risen around $25 million since it was proposed.
Work on expanding the Norfolk Southern Bridge over Eagle Creek and the next phase of the benching project on the Blanchard River was to start this year. But the cost of each of the projects has gone up to nearly 100 million dollars, so Findlay City Council will be going after a $20 million federal grant to pay for an increase by doubling the length of the bridge and continuing to increase the width of the river from benching.
Experts say it would decrease flooding in the Blanchard River in downtown Findlay by 3 feet during a 100-year flood. Findlay Council is expected to vote on applying for the grant at their next meeting Tuesday night.
