The City of Lima and the Lima Police Department hosted their annual National Night Out inside the Town Square in downtown Lima Tuesday evening from 4 to 7 PM. At the night out, live music filled the air with the Lima Police Department grilling hot dogs and local nonprofit agencies providing fun activities. While the National Night Out may be an annual event, officials say there is a deeper purpose behind these festivities.

"So, it's just to show the community that the police officers and the fire department [that] they're not there just for scary situations, that they're actually humans, too. So, it's a great opportunity for people to come and meet them face-to-face and just say hi and hang out with the hot dogs or meet the K9s or see the trucks or just to get to know them as a person. They're a person just like everyone else at home. So, they get to come and know them on a little bit more of a personal level," says Sydni Winkler, Neighborhood Specialist, Department of Community Development.
