Staff from Lima City Schools were out early Saturday morning informing the community about their new preschool expansion.
Throughout the morning dozens of shoppers at Ruler Foods, and dozens of other locations, were met with smiling faces and small red bags. Each red bag was filled with new information about Lima City School's preschool expansion.
The expansion includes busing options for children and more full-day preschool options. The Lima City Schools superintendent says the expansion is necessary because it better prepares children for kindergarten.
“We know that 40 percent of the kids in the state of Ohio that come to kindergarten are not on track and ready to learn and when they are behind it makes it very difficult throughout their school year to catch them up,” said Jill Ackerman, Lima City Schools superintendent. “So we would like to capture them earlier.”
Full day options will be available at Freedom, Heritage, Independence and Unity Elementary Schools. There will also be half-day options available at Unity and Heritage.
