LIMA, Ohio (WLIO) — As people gear up for the Lenten season, one local business is preparing for the day before it begins.

Pat’s Donuts and Kreme has been taking orders for paczki for a month in anticipation of the Fat Tuesday rush. The sweet treat is a staple for many, and Pat’s has developed 17 different specialty flavors for customers to choose from, including favorites like lemon-filled, cream cheese and apple.

Fat Tuesday is the busiest day of the year for Pat’s, with employees putting in a 14-hour day to fulfill all paczki orders, along with other favorites.

“Over the years, we'll make 10 to 12,000 paczki. Right now, we're projecting to probably do around that number. That's our goal. I don't think we really missed a beat. After once Lent starts, it keeps on. You don't want to give up donuts for Lent. So, we'll find something else to give up. But yeah, this is the idea—to celebrate Fat Tuesday, the day before Lent, you know, get your donut in. Get your paczki in. Get get whatever you're going to enjoy, get it in now. So, if you are going to take sweets off for Lent. This is be the day to do it,” says Ed Ezzelle, owner of Pat's Donuts and Kreme.

Lent begins this Wednesday and will run until Easter on April 20th.
