The third day of the trial wrapped up the presentation of evidence by the state. A video of a police interview with the defendant was played to the court, and in the video, Alves can be heard multiple times saying that she shot both victims. She goes on further to state that both Charles and Tarissa Sanders were stealing from her.

2020 was already a difficult year. And for the City of Lima it was an unusual year when it comes to crime. Lima Police Department handled 12 homicides, up from the average 5 murders a year for the last few years. LPD has arrested at least one person in each case.
Jan. 20 Dan Jackson was shot and killed while standing behind pappy’s lounge after the bar had closed. Police believe two teens are responsible and they have since been arrested.
On Feb.4, Levels Lounge was the site of a violent triple murder. A gun fight left Terrell McGraw and Devontae Upshaw dead inside the bar and Timothy White was found dead on a nearby sidewalk. Deontray Forrest has been charged for two of the murders with criminal gang charges attached to them. The bar has since closed.
Michelle Alves had a mental competency review and was determined to be able to stand trial. Following that determination, her attorney filed a motion to change Alves' plea to not guilty by reason of insanity. Alves is charged for the deaths of Charles and Tarissa Sanders on June 3.
A man who was suspected to be present at a double homicide will be serving prison time. Clinton Owens Junior pleaded guilty to a count of having a weapon under disability as well as a count of possessing cocaine. He had previously pleaded not guilty to both counts.
An Allen County Grand Jury has released their indictments from their August session. Some of these people are involved in recent crimes we’ve been keeping you up to date on.

Police listed her and Clinton Owens Jr as people of interest in the murder of Tarissa and Charles Sanders on June 3. Tarissa was found shot to death at 413 S. Atlantic Ave. Charles was taken to a hospital where he later died. Alves and Owens fled to Las Vegas where they were arrested 12 days later. Alves was on probation and has an assault charge pending in the same court. Her bond was set at $1 million. Owens will be in court for a preliminary hearing on Thursday. Alves has a preliminary hearing next Monday.
He and Michelle Alves were named persons of interest in the shooting deaths not long after police were called to 413 South Atlantic Street where they found the Sanders. Tarissa was dead and Charles was transported to the hospital where he later died.
